The meeting that took place on October 30, 2025 between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping confirmed that the relationship between the USA and China were marked by fierce rivalry. And yet, in the eyes of many observers the relationship between the 2 leaders seemed friendly, or at least peaceful. In fact, it was simply a truce. That said, it should be noted that despite tensions between the 2 countries, the volume of trade between the USA and China reached USD 600 billion in 2024. However, the 2 global rivals are not naive and know perfectly well that an armed conflict between them is always possible. The figures for the budgets allocated to armaments leave no doubt as to their capacity to destroy their adversary. US military spending had already reached nearly $ 1 trillion in 2024 and will exceed that amount by the end of 2025. China’s military spending should reach USD 230 billion by the end of 2025. Today, and despite this disparity there is little doubt that China will continue to develop harmful activities in order to weaken the USA on the international stage. That said, and despite everything that sets them appart, it remains to be hoped that 2026 will allow China and the USA to find their way back to genuine dialogue.
